🔹 Potentially registrable IP developed during employment, under contract, or as a student should NOT be made public in any way before disclosure.

This means:

• Do not submit it for publication.
• Do not present it at conferences, seminars, or meetings.
• Do not share it with external parties without clearance.

All innovations must first receive clearance for publication or presentation from the Research and Innovation Division to protect your IP and the University’s interests.

1. Identify IP: Upon identifying potentially registrable IP, complete and submit an IP Disclosure Form to the Research and Innovation Division within 30 days of identification.
2. Maintain Confidentiality: Creators must maintain secrecy until protection has been secured. Sharing without clearance may compromise IP protection.
3. Internal Review: The Research and Innovation Division will:
   • Review your disclosure.
   • Consult with you for further clarification if needed.
   • Liaise with the Legal Officer for guidance.
4. Decision to Protect: If the decision is made to protect the IP, all involved personnel will sign a Public Non-Disclosure Agreement, committing to confidentiality until the IP application is filed.
5. Filing for Protection: The IP Management Officer, in liaison with the Legal Officer, will facilitate the filing of the IP application in appropriate jurisdictions.
6. Geographical Scope: The Research and Innovation Division will consult with creators to determine which geographical territories to protect under IP filings.

IP protection safeguards your innovation, your potential revenue streams, and Zimbabwe’s innovation-driven development goals. Disclosing your IP ensures you receive credit and allows your idea to transition confidently towards impact and commercialisation.
